Words & Film proudly presents a FREE presentation of director Robert Townsend’s 10,000 Black Men Named George*. The movie is a biopic following the story of Asa Philip Randolph, a political activist in the 1920s, as he endeavors to unionize the porters of the Pullman Rail Company. Aided by Ashley Totten, the two men form one of the first black-led unions in the country and take on their employer, who is a staunch opponent of both the civil and workers’ rights movements.

Directed by Robert Townsend, this film stars André Braugher, Charles Dutton and Mario Van Peebles.

*This film is rated R for language and brief nudity. Please note that Closed Captioning is not available for this film.

The film starts promptly at 2:00 pm in the Edinger Community Room in our Hughes Building.
