Daphne Parker Powell

Folk & Jazz inspired by Literature & Poetry

Admission is free and open to the public, and refreshments are available for a modest charge. Daphne Parker Powell was born in the foothills of Appalachia, raised on Old Time and traditional Folk in a family band. She followed her dreams to the Brooklyn of the ’90s, and started an East Coast brick-&-mortar record shop & label. She hosted years of festivals and concerts, while building up to writing and producing 6 albums of heart-breakingly beautiful, dance-able, powerful original songs. She is now an award-winning writer and producer, with music in film and television, with her lastest album being featured on NPR’s “All Songs Considered”.

Her singular American melange includes a broad array of contemporary and classic inspirations that spans folks, country, vocal jazz, indie roc, and cinematic pop. Her Words are pulled from an expansive well of literature and lyrical influences, from laissez-faire poets, satirist, and the Beats, to Feminist and modern philosophers.

Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please plan to arrive before the scheduled starting time. The BookHouse program takes place in the Hughes Branch’s Edinger Community Room of Eastern Monroe Public Library, located at 1002 North 9th Street (Rt. 611 and Chipperfield Drive) in Stroudsburg.
