Celebrating Veterans Day

Veterans Day is annually observed November 11th–commemorating the day World War I ended, “on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. Until 1954, it was called Armistice Day, and still is in other parts of the world. The federal holiday is officially recognized and celebrated by 48 states. Two minutes of silence is recommended at 2:11 pm EST. Banks, schools, the USPS, and others are closed according to floating holiday status. It is a day to honor all military veterans not dishonorably discharged and to promote world peace. It is celebrated in conjunction with the US Marine Corps’s birthday, which is the day prior.
