Celebrating Halloween

Halloween, or All Hallows’ Eve, is annually observed on October 31st. It is not an official holiday, so all businesses are open per usual. The tradition started centuries ago when people would dress up, particularly as saints, and visit each other. In modern times, people dress up in all kinds of costumes — with children in particular going door-to-door “trick-or-treating” for candy — and throw parties. Jack-o’-lanterns/pumpkins, ghosts, monsters, and autumn leaves littering the ground, have all come to be associated with the holiday as well. Your library’s staff have curated a list of 10 library items to help facilitate your celebration of this festive and spooky day!
