Celebrating Labor Day

Labor Day is annually observed on the first Monday in September. Created to recognize the social and economic achievements of American workers and the labor movement, it was first made a holiday in Oregon in 1887 and made a federal legal holiday by Congress in 1894. The extended holiday weekend is celebrated with parades, picnics, parties, and trips. It marks the unofficial end of the summer vacation period, the time when school districts begin their new year, and many sports hold major events, such as the start of their seasons. Your library’s staff have curated a list of 10 library items to help facilitate your celebration of this deferential day!
