Celebrate Father’s Day

Father’s Day is annually observed on the third Sunday in June. (Other countries, especially in Europe and South America, observe it on March 19th.) The celebration of honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society, is not an official federal holiday. The observance was founded on June 9, 1910, in Spokane, Washington, at the YMCA, and was organized by Sonora Smart Dodd. President Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential Father’s Day proclamation in 1966; and in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed the holiday’s permanence into law.
