Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day, while an unofficial observation, is annually celebrated the world over on March 17th, which is considered the day the saint passed away in the year 493. The holiday was created to commemorate the former slave who would become recognized as Ireland’s patron saint for his conversion of the island to Christianity. Over time, the day has come to be a celebration of Ireland in general. Four-leaf clovers, leprechauns, green drinks, corned beef & cabbage, and bagpipes are staples of the holiday’s festivities, which include New York City’s famous parade–the first of its kind in this country!
