Blind Date With a Book

Hello, and welcome to the official page for Eastern Monroe Public Library’s 2021 Blind Date With a Book program!

This program will be running February 1st – February 28th! You can choose one or a few of these books at any of our 3 branches!

What is a blind date with a book?

A blind date is a date between two people who haven’t met before and neither has much of an idea of what to expect. A blind date with a book carries that concept over to a book, so that you the reader have only a few small clues as to what to expect from the red-wrapped mystery book you take home with you.

Why have a blind date with a book?

It’s different! You normally know what you’re borrowing and taking home with you because you can see the book, read its jacket, leaf through it. Not with a blind date! Just a couple clues and the size of the book is all you have to work with!

It’s fun! It’s just like when you see gifts under the Christmas tree or at your birthday party, or when you receive a package in the mail. The suspense!

It’s refreshing! You might be picking a book in the vein of what you already enjoy reading. Or you might pick a book that you wouldn’t normally read and wind up loving! We hope either one is the case for you!

How does this blind date work?

1.Each branch of our library–the Hughes Building, the Smithfields Branch, and the Pocono Township Branch–will have a little set-up near their entrances with the red-wrapped books for you to look over.

2. Each book offers some small clues as to what the book is about and if it might be of interest to you. We also have Large Print books specifically available as well.

3. You can borrow a few at the location’s Circulation Desk and take them home with you.

4. Unwrap and hopefully enjoy your reading “date” during your borrowing period!

5. When you return your books, let us know if you liked or didn’t like your picks. We encourage your feedback for the future!

Which kinds books will they be?

The books run across numerous fiction genres, which include: mystery, thriller, psychological suspense, classics, horror, Western, literary fiction, science fiction, fantasy, romance, urban fiction.
