Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is annually observed on the third Monday of January.  The federal holiday is officially recognized and celebrated by all 50 states!  Banks, schools, the United States Post Office, and others are closed in observance.  Created to recognize the contributions and achievements of the preeminent Civil Rights leader around the time of his birthday, its 1983 Congressional passage makes MLK, Jr. Day the most recently established of US federal holidays!  It is one of only three national holidays at the federal level named for and honoring a specific individual.  Your library’s staff have curated a list of 10 library items to help facilitate your celebration of this important and vital day!
