Hoopla Borrowing Limit
Changes to Hoopla
Update to Monthly Borrowing Limit
To help manage costs and ensure continued access to Hoopla for all Eastern Monroe Public Library (EMPL) users throughout the year, the library has made a small adjustment to Hoopla borrowing limits.
Beginning January 2, the monthly Hoopla checkout limit has been reduced from 6 items to 5 items per user.
This change replaces the need for a system-wide daily budget cap and allows us to provide more consistent access to Hoopla for patrons across the entire month.
What changed?
- The personal monthly borrowing limit on Hoopla is now 5 items instead of 6.
- There is no longer a system-wide daily borrowing cap that prevents all users from borrowing once a daily limit is reached.
- Each patron’s Hoopla limit resets automatically at the beginning of each month.
Why was this change made?
Hoopla charges the library for each item borrowed. By slightly reducing the number of items each patron can borrow per month, the library can:
- Better manage overall costs
- Avoid unexpected service interruptions
- Ensure fair and sustainable access to Hoopla for all users throughout the entire month
What if I reach my monthly limit?
If you have already borrowed 5 items during the month, you will need to wait until the next month for your limit to reset. If you need materials sooner, we recommend trying one of the options below.
