Planned Giving

Planned giving allows you to leave a lasting legacy and ensure the library can serve generations to come. You may consider:
  • Bequest in Your Will – Designate cash, securities, or a percentage of your estate to the library.
  • Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) – Designate the library as a beneficiary of all or part of your account.
  • Trusts – Establish a trust to benefit the library now or in the future.
Please consult your lawyer or financial advisor for guidance on planned giving.

Employer Matching Gifts

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by employees. If your company offers this benefit, request a matching gift form and send it along with your donation. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees or spouses.

In Memory or Honor

If your gift is in memory or honor of someone special, kindly include a note or complete the Give the Gift of Books form. Thank you for your generous support—it truly makes a difference!

Did You Know?

Many people assume our library is a government agency and that all updates and improvements come at no cost. While we do receive local tax support and state funding, these resources cover only part of our operations. Running a library involves far more than just providing books—our funding helps support programs for children, teens, and adults, technology services like Wi-Fi hotspots and public computers, and maintaining safe, welcoming spaces for the entire community. Programs, technology upgrades, building improvements, and special projects often rely on donations, grants, and support from community partners. Gifts from individuals, families, and local organizations make it possible to host educational workshops, expand our collection, and provide services to underserved populations. This community involvement is essential to keeping the library vibrant, accessible, and responsive to the diverse needs of Monroe County residents.

Donation Policy

Unrestricted donations and bequests are used in the following ways:

  • Support daily operations: Donations first help cover everyday library services and programs, up to the amount planned for donations in our annual budget.
  • Plan for the future: Once that annual goal is met, additional donations are set aside in the Library’s Reserve Fund to support future needs.
  • Careful review: As part of the yearly budgeting process, the Finance Committee reviews donations to plan for unexpected expenses and determine how reserve funds can best support the Library in the year ahead.
