Free Sunday Film: The Glorias

Join us, in celebration of Women’s History Month, for The Glorias, a compelling biopic about feminist icon Gloria Steinem. Directed by Julie Taymor, the film follows Steinem from her formative years in the 1950s to her rise as a leading voice of the women’s liberation movement in the 1960s and 1970s, as she challenges the male-dominated world of journalism and reshapes modern feminism. Make Spring & St. Patrick’s Day Cards for Seniors: Share the Cheer!
Friday, March 6th, 1pm-3pm – Community Room
Help brighten a senior’s day by making handmade spring and St. Patrick’s Day cards. Your creations will be delivered along our Bookmobile route to local seniors. Supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own. This is a self-guided program for adults; but teens ages 14+ are welcome. One session only — our last senior card program until summer! Can’t attend? Drop off completed cards at the second-floor Reference Desk. Please don’t seal envelopes or sign your name—use “Your Library Friend.” Drop-off deadline: Friday, March 13th. Drop-in. St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake Liner Trees (Adult Craft)
Monday, March 9th, 11am – Eisemann Room
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a relaxed, social craft program for adults. Participants will create St. Patrick’s Day–themed cupcake liner trees using green-and-white liners and festive toppers, with directions and support provided by a library staff member. As we craft, we’ll enjoy conversation and learn a bit about the history of St. Patrick’s Day and Irish-American traditions. Feel free to share your own traditions and memories along the way. March Health Awareness Info. Booth
Thursday, March 12th, 12:30-3:30pm (drop-in) – Hughes Lobby
March brings several important health observances, and this booth invites visitors to explore how kidney health, cancer screening awareness, and injury prevention each contribute to overall wellbeing. A PA Department of Health representative will be available to chat about topics such as recognizing early signs, thinking about screening timelines, or staying safe during daily activities. Visitors are welcome to focus on any area that interests them. Drop in anytime—no appointment or registration needed.

Computer Confidence Class: A Beginner’s Guide to Computers & the Internet

History Talk: Elk v. Wilkins and the Fight for Native American Citizenship

Join the library’s local history and genealogy librarian Jim for History Talk: Elk v. Wilkins (1884) and the Fight for Native American Citizenship. This program examines the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision and its significance for the citizenship and voting rights of Native Americans. A program that is part of America250 – a bipartisan initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States – which invites us to explore the founding and history of the United States. Seed Sowing Workshop: Learn to successfully start plants from seed
Monday, March 16th, 11am – Community Room
Get a jump start on the gardening season by learning how to successfully start plants from seed. In this hands-on workshop, Master Gardeners will guide participants through the basics of seed starting, from selecting quality seeds to providing the right light, temperature, and moisture for healthy seedlings. Topics will include choosing appropriate containers and growing media, understanding seed packets and germination requirements, preventing common seedling problems, and knowing when and how to transplant seedlings into the garden. Kaleidoscope Book Club

March’s Theme: We March — Rights, Resistance, & the Fight Forward. A choose-your-own-read adult book club on third Thursdays celebrating LGBTQ+ authors, characters, and stories with a new theme each month. This March invites readers to choose a fiction or nonfiction book that explores LGBTQ+ rights, protest, resistance, advocacy, or similar actions that inspire. The Important Women in Our Lives: A Guided Writing Workshop

In celebration of Women’s History Month, published author and workshop facilitator Victoria Marie Lees will lead a writing workshop about the important women in our lives — mothers, grandmothers, sisters, mentors, friends, teachers, and others who have shaped us. Participants will receive guidelines for creating personal essays and be guided through brainstorming meaningful memories and experiences. The focus is on beginning to capture these cherished stories for personal reflection, to share with family, or potentially for publication. No writing experience is needed. Red Cross Blood Drive

Your lifesaving donation is needed now! The American Red Cross is facing a growing risk of a blood shortage following the holiday season, with blood being used faster than it’s donated. Join us at Hughes Library for an American Red Cross blood drive, accepting Whole Blood and Power Red donations. Seasonal declines have created an urgent need, especially for type O blood. Drop-In Fly-Tying Demo & Practice with Trout Unlimited (Mondays)
Watch fly-tying demonstrations and try your hand at this traditional craft with John from Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited! Drop by the Hughes Library lobby most Mondays, 1-4pm (see calendar for dates) to admire both classic and unique examples of fly tying patterns, learn techniques, and practice tying. All flies created will be donated to VALOR to support veterans with fly fishing. No experience or registration required.

Chair Yoga (Mondays)
ON PAUSE FOR MARCH
Join our Chair Yoga sessions for a yoga-focused class suitable for all levels. Yoga classes include breathing exercises, movement exercises, meditation, and more. All movements are adaptable—Luz provides instructions and modifications for different abilities, so you can participate entirely on the chair, partially off, or fully off the chair if comfortable. Please bring water, a towel (optional), and a yoga mat if you plan to move partially or fully off the chair. Bringing yoga blocks or straps, if you have them, is recommended. Space is limited to 50 participants, first-come, first-served. Arrive early—doors close promptly at 2:00 PM, and no late entries are allowed.

Color Yourself Calm: Adult Coloring (Wednesdays)
Every Wednesday, 12:30pm-3:00pm (drop-in) — Pullen Room
Join us for Color Yourself Calm, a relaxing, self-guided coloring session for adults of all abilities. All materials are provided—including colored pencils, crayons, markers, and a variety of coloring sheets—though you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Drop in anytime during the session and stay for as long as you like. Settle in for peaceful solitude or connect with others in a calm, creative atmosphere. Unwind, recharge, and enjoy a soothing break in your day!

Every Thursday, 2:00pm – 3:00pm — Pullen Room
Tech Thursdays take place every Thursday at 2 PM in the Pullen Room, featuring a variety of tech and computer topics designed for beginners. Due to limited space, registration is required. Laptops will be available for classes that need them, but participants are welcome to bring their own devices for added comfort. If you find the classes don’t fully meet your needs, we’re happy to arrange one-on-one sessions based on librarian expertise. Chair Cardio/Movement (Fridays)

Every Friday, 2:00pm (unless otherwise specified) — Community Room
Join our Chair Cardio sessions for a heart-pumping, full-body movement class open to all levels. Each week features different exercises and movement styles—mixing it up between boxing, tai chi, balletone, strength/balance work and more. It will get your blood flowing and make you break a sweat, even from the chair! All movements are adaptable—Luz demonstrates modifications for different abilities, so you can participate fully on the chair, partially supported, or off the chair if comfortable. Take charge of your financial future at the Financial Wellness Fair. Free, drop-in event. 30-minute in-person financial education sessions throughout the day. Topics include Budgeting & Managing Credit, Identity Theft and Fraud Prevention, Auto Buying 101, and Homebuyer Education. No registration required. Adults 55+ are invited to participate in the Monroe County Senior Spelling Bee on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 1:00–3:00 PM at the Hughes Library. Presented by the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging and the Eastern Monroe Public Library. Preregistration is required by April 20, 2026.
