Celebrate Black History Month at the Eastern Monroe Public Library with Baba Keino and The African American Ancestral Drumming Society. The music of Baba Keino weaves sounds from around the world, including genres such as world music, jazz, spiritual and African-influenced beats. For those interested, please feel free to bring your drum and participate in the drumming circle.
The African – American Ancestral Drumming Society is a group of men and women who come together to preserve the African Folklore that has been established in all the Americas. As a society they go into all communities using the drum to heal, teach, and perpetuate the African and African-American traditions. They also preside over all rites of passage, funerals, wedding ceremonies naming ceremonies, spiritual healings and cleanings, using the drum as a means of communicating to the Almighty God and the Ancestors.
Doors will open at 7 PM. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be available for a small charge. Please plan to arrive prior to the scheduled starting time. All Bookhouse programs take place in the Edinger Community Room of the Hughes Building, Eastern Monroe Public Library, located at 1002 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg.
