Celebrating Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is annually observed on the fourth Thursday of November. The federal holiday is officially recognized and celebrated across the country. Banks, schools, the USPS, and others are closed in observance. With historical roots going back to the Pilgrims and Native Americans in Massachusetts, Abraham Lincoln set the official annual date in 1863 by national proclamation. Congress would set a joint-resolution with presidential approval in 1941.
