Small Assistive Devices

ALL BORROWERS WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION BEFORE ITEMS CAN BE LOANED OUT AND A SURVEY IS REQUIRED AT THE END OF LOAN PERIOD.

1.      Assistive Computer With JAWS Software

a.      Name of the software on the Assistive station.

b.      Assistive station is on the first floor around the corner from the elevator, by the fax and photocopier.

c.       Software allows a patron who has limited or no vision to utilize computer software and the internet.

d.      Device comes with headset or user can provide their own because it allows the computer to speak to the patron, telling them what it is they are processing.

e.      Cheat sheet is located by the machine and INS 1 will activate help which will tell the person everything they are doing.  

 

2.      Coil AT-Max Illuminated Magnifier

a.      Hand held magnifier with 5x magnification.

b.      Light is activated when blue handle is held.

c.       Uses two AA batteries.

d.      Device is stored at Reference desk at Hughes, and with the library staff at Smithfield and Pocono branch

 

3.      Digital Talk book Player

 

a.      Come with 3 cassettes as samples.

b.      This device is easy to use because it comes with recorded speech. 

c.       Once turned on each button will tell the user its function and purpose.

d.      Has rechargeable battery, as well as it can be plugged in.

e.      Power button will tell how much battery life the device has.

f.        This item is for short term loan until user gets their own.  Item is loan along with Library for the Blind application.

 

4.      Handi-Cassette II

 

a.      A tape recorder/player.

b.      Comes with a instructional tape

c.       Buttons are oversized

d.      Comes with AC adapter as well as battery pack.

e.      We have two of these devices.

 

 

5.      Intel Reader

 

a.      A camera device that takes picture of items and read them back.

b.      By pressing the ?, this button will tell you date time and battery power status

c.       Has AC power cord and rechargeable battery. 

d.      Comes with instructional CD.

 

6.      Plextalk

 

a.      Has instructional memory within the device.

b.      The 1 key allows the user to access the user guide.

c.       This device work works with CDs, a SD card and it also has a USB port and cable.

d.      Has rechargeable batteries, comes with AC adapter.

e.      Pressing the “I” button for charging information

f.        Also has a cover that covers keypad.

 

 

7.      Ruby Video Magnifier

 

a.      Can be use by handle or placed on item.

b.      Changes color background

c.       Can take a picture of item

d.      Has AC adapter and visible display battery power.

e.      Device is located on the bookmobile

 

 

8.      Vector Reader Stream

 

a.      Hand held device the size of a cell phone.

b.      Plays using a SD card

c.       Comes with instruction

d.      Has AC adapter and chargeable.

e.      Has two of these devices
